Starting the day right can be made or broken over energy and success. Often, due to the busy nature of our lives, we have a tendency to skip over or underplay the most important meal of our day…breakfast.
I know I always just want to rush into the gym in the morning, but taking the time to eat a full, hearty, and balanced breakfast makes a big difference in my workouts and energy levels throughout the day. You will never be able to drive that racecar as fast as you can, unless you are putting premium fuel in it and in the right quantities.
Here is my 5 block Zone Diet breakfast that I eat most days. It has a balance of 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. I usually eat 16 blocks per day and this is the biggest meal. In addition to balancing the macronutrients, I try to pack it with as many antioxidants and flavonoids as possible with spinach, blueberries, and by drinking black coffee (usually I will make a cold brew). The gluten free oatmeal doesn’t bother a sensitive stomach, but will give some valuable, longer lasting carbs. The bacon satisfies your palate and contributes fat to slow down digestion a little. The kick of caffeine at the end of breakfast has me mentally ready to focus, attack the gym and the rest of the day. This breakfast only takes about 7 minutes to prepare. Try it out and enjoy!
