“Be Better Today”–Coach J

On Friday, March 20th 2015 the Wodstar family suffered a great loss with the passing of Jason Fine. Jason was the owner of CrossFit North Scottsdale and a friend to us at Wodstar. He had a passion for the sport that was not only apparent in his programming, but also as a competitor, having placed 16 in the 40 to 45 Masters Division at the CrossFit Games in 2013.

Jason was working on his second trip last year when he discovered he had a stage 4 brain tumor during the 2014 Open Workouts. He fought hard and even lived months longer than his prognosis, which was a testament to his heart and determination.

Today would have been Jason’s 45 Birthday and we will honor his memory with a WOD called “J”. This is a Hero WOD of the type that Jason would have designed, as it contained his favorite movements and he would have crushed it.

Every March 23, we will honor Jason by doing this WOD, post your time in the comments section and check it next year so you can benchmark your progress. If you need to scale, see below

I. WARM UP

Row 500 meters

II. SKILL

  • Complete 3 Rounds For Time Of:
  • 1 Strict Pull Up
  • 1 Kipping Pull Up
  • 1 Chest To Bar Kipping Pull-Up

Then…

  • 5 Barbell Front Squats
  • 5 Push Press
  • 5 Thrusters

III. WOD

Complete for time:

200 Double Unders

Then 4 Rounds of:

  • 5 Muscle-Ups
  • 10 Front Squats (155/105lbs)
  • 15 Handstand Push-Ups
  • 20 Burpees

Muscle-Ups Scales

  • Jumping Muscle-ups
  • Use 3 pull-ups and 3 dips for every 1 muscle-up
